Free OCR to Word is a simple optical character recognition (OCR) program that scans your photos and extracts text from them.
If you have a lot of photos of text instead of PDFs, it can be a pain to try and find a program to extract the text from them. Free OCR to Word makes this process easy, allowing users to import images in popular formats and scan them for text. After the text has been extracted, Free OCR to Word easily exports the text to Microsoft Word.
In use, Free OCR to Word was extremely disappointing. While the interface is responsive and well-designed, the OCR just did not work. It couldn't recognize text from different images, even ones that were crystal clear. Check out our screenshots to see the hilarious text output. Even simple words were jumbled into incomprehensible text. Competitors like Adobe Acrobat Pro do a much better job at OCR but are expensive.
In the end, Free OCR to Word disappointed with terrible character recognition. While the interface is excellent, failing its one purpose is unacceptable.
